ride the blue: Walk-a-Mile is tonight. →
ridetheblue:
This is the slightly creepy but much loved tradition at the start of each term where we line up boy and girl, holding hands and get to know each other while walking. Someone will tap you on the shoulder and tell you to run ahead 7, or go back 12, then you “meet” someone new. It’s a lot of fun as…
Oh Walk-a-Mile, you were always entertaining. </nostalgia>

“It’s been three weeks since Attawapiskat First Nation took the extraordinary step of declaring a state of emergency. Since then, not a single federal or provincial official has even bothered to visit the community.
No aid agencies have stepped forward. No disaster management teams have offered help.
Meanwhile temperatures have dropped 20 degrees and will likely drop another...

I was born in 90 + I’m 21 = 111
Dad was born in 56 + he’s 55 = 111
Mom was born in 59 + she’s 52 = 111
Bro was born in 86 + he’s 25 = 111
Uh yeah…..you should only be surprised if it doesn’t add up to 111.
Your age is a measure of the time since your birth year, which itself is a measure of the time since 0 (which represents the year 1900). So...

Tim Hortons to offer real espresso at $2 a cup →
mattcunnington:
I’m not too sure how I feel about this…
LOL at the coffee snobbery going one here! Good espresso at $2/cup is definitely possible - hell, the Europeans have been doing it for centuries - and the idea that Tim Hortons might produce a comparable product at a lower price than Starbucks is most definitely valid. That people are putting up such a hipster-ish fuss is simply evidence...

Canadian Newspaper Runs Full-Page Anti-Gay, Anti-Transgender Ad
I’m not sure how I feel about this. I don’t disagree with providing an education that discusses a wide variety of human sexuality, especially as it might help prevent hate crimes. At the same time, however, I’m not sure that beginning this education as early as Junior Kindergarten is fruitful either. Is an...
The Downfall of Instant Newsmaking →
I wrote a piece for Imprint this week about some of the challenges we run into on a weekly basis, and how they’re exacerbated in a 24-hour news cycle. Hopefully the crusade that Jon Stewart and I are on will result in better news.

Yeaaaahhhh, I reblogged and then checked to see if tickets were available…..I’d still pay it I guess, but you’re buying beers.

The Ford brothers are insane!!! Between the Waterfront Toronto plan linked above and this devastating news on canceling all chances of Toronto bidding for the 2020 Olympics, I don’t know what the Ford’s can do next that could possibly be any worse!
I don’t know what to make of the Waterfront Toronto thing - though I agree with the notion that it is moving waaaay too...

Sarcasm indicators. Like Bold or Italics, only for sarcasm.
The SARCASM FONT! I agree completely. What a necessary invention.
Here you go. (I must confess I’m not a fan of it, but at least it’s distinctive.)
Being sick sucks.
I hate my life right now.

The following is an expansion on a series of tweets from yesterday that cover six lessons I learned at a Death Cab for Cutie concert on Friday night.
1) No one’s bothered to buy or listen to their new album.
It’s generally not a good sign when a band feels the need to ask permission to play a song off of their new album, and probably an even worse sign when most of the people in the floor section...

Wired.com has a super-interesting article that examines what happens when art, video games and religion intersect. This should be required reading for anyone who wants to study or practice religion. (And I say this as a practicing Christian.)

An apology and a request for some Tumblr...
I really hate that I’m subjecting people to a wall of text in their dashboard - and I used a ‘read more’ shortener in yesterdays Jack Johnson post - but I can’t seem to figure out a way to avoid this for a non-text post. If anyone know how I can go about doing this, it’d be awesome if you would help me out! Cheers!

The memories that flood back 'In Between Dreams'
I’m finding that there’s not much to do at work these days, as I flit between projects that are stalled pending a decision being made by the higher-ups. So, naturally, that means I take an inordinate number of breaks and do pointless things like read everything the internet has to offer about NHL hockey.1 Fortunately, while I’m reading I can also listen to music on Grooveshark, which has this...

Newsflash: Brian Wilson Keeps Score
oldtimefamilybaseball:
The dying art of baseball scorekeeping, kept alive by a small handful of youngsters and those who lived through the Korean War, has an unlikely member: the wonderfully twisted, fantastically bearded Brian Wilson.
Wilson, as it turns out, keeps score from the bullpen during every game, having bullpen coach Mark Gardner take over while he warms up or after he enters the...
Paradox of tolerance →
bestofwikipedia:
The tolerance paradox arises from a problem that a tolerant person might be antagonistic toward intolerance, hence intolerant of it. The tolerant individual would then be by definition intolerant of intolerance. This problem is at the heart of the dilemma faced by pluralist societies who wish to embrace diversity, but in doing so ostensibly exclude those who do not embrace...
