No Son of Mine Plays Oregon Trail Like That →

Did anyone else play Oregon Trail endlessly as a child? (via Josh Matthews)
That was good. Josh Matthews needs to get on Tumblr.

Does anybody know how to buy a laptop? I’m looking at the Dell Inspiron 1525.
What’s reasonable to get for warranty? It makes me nervous just getting the 1 year return to depot warranty, but should I spend a large fraction of the cost of the laptop for something more?
I’ve never been able to justify warranties…It just seems like too much with only a small chance of needing...

…I finished work, finished my Christmas shopping, got free coffee from Starbucks, meandered around downtown Ottawa while it was snowing, and bought chocolate milk for only 99 cents. I’m struggling to find a way it could be more perfect.

Work parties at 10:30 AM,
that include champagne, baileys and assorted goodies = unproductive days. There’s no way I’m getting my work term report done before Christmas.

My sister has written a curriculum for teaching youth about and getting them to participate in worship at church. It is going to be published by Mennonite Publishing Network and they have suggested the following title.
Title: Youth Worship Sourcebook Subtitle: Teaching Teens to Understand and Lead Worship
Now, before we go any further, think about your initial impressions.

An All-Pay Auction →
lfar:
Martin Shubik invented a famous game-theory exercise, sometimes called “the dollar auction,” where a teacher auctions off a $20 bill to the highest bidder. Bids have to be in round dollar amounts, but the twist is that both the highest and the second-highest bidder have to pay. When uninitiated students start to play this game, someone rushes to bid $3 or $4 dollars for the prospect of...

The recent Ottawa weather has forced me to acquire, for the first time in at least four years, boots. I bought a pair of leather boots that are supposed to be waterproof, but didn’t get a chance to treat the leather before I had to use them.
(The Ottawa transit strike has necessitated couch-surfing, so I had to move everything out last weekend, so that my brother can take it home when...

Today I woke up angry. That hasn’t happened in a very long time. Therefore I have decided to relish in my bad mood for the next 24 hours.
Maybe I will go to the library. There are a lot of angry people there.
Some libraries are like that. Even in Australia.
Send a Christmas Card →
Follow up to the video of Don Yoon (the man whose entire family died in the plane crash a few days ago). The link is to his address, if you feel like sending a Christmas card.
Think of the sugar rush! →
I think this is such a cool idea! I think it’s so awesome that instead of just doing things like this for the sake of doing them, we’re now tending to do them and attach them to a cause. It’s so cool that people are willing to pay for things like this do be done, given that some of the money they pay goes to charity. It’s like charitable patronage.
I realize it already...

I find it totally unpalatable because it is so, so depressing. I can’t think of a single episode I’ve listened to that hasn’t made me feel ten times worse about the world.

Dear OC Transpo union:
Because of your strike, I have to spend the last two weeks of my co-op term couch surfing in order to be able to get to work. I have no idea how I’m going to move all of my things out, and I have no idea when I’ll be able to pack up. I’m currently sleeping on a couch that is only long enough for my head to my knees. I was going to host a party tomorrow night to say good-bye to...
This man is strength, by the grace of God. Reminds me of the Woerlen family. I am thankful that he has a community to back him up.

I bet Geoff learned this while doing the ‘Simple Machines’ badge at Cadets, like any good Dutch boy would.
Another argument for on-demand TV →
I’ve noticed that this term has had me watching a lot less TV than the previous term, and that I’ve been a lot healthier. But I’m still able to watch the shows that I want to thanks to the miracle of Bitorrent (at least until Bell started throttling me). I wonder if the general population would be healthier if everyone had on-demand tv. It would take away the temptation to skip...
