This would be one tattoo I would definately get. I saw one of Manitoba as well and fell in love with it.

One small problem…

Saskatchewan is an f’ing rectangle! UGH

So overlay the Ontario and Saskatchewan tatoos - after all, a good chunk of your life is based in Ontario now, right?

Buy Nothing Day is the collective decision of a bunch of people to go against the American tradition called “Black Friday” - the Friday of the Thanksgiving weekend, where everyone gets work off, so they do all their Christmas shopping, kind of like a big Boxing Day before Christmas. All the retail stores have great deals, and so people get up before daylight to line up at the stores of choice at 5 or 6 in the morning in order to not be trampled on the way to getting The Deal. The reason Buy Nothing Day exists is because of those conscientious young consumers who want to go against the grain on that day.

There are two reasons why Buy Nothing Day is meaningless in Canada (of course, you are free to not buy anything - there’s never anything wrong with that):

1. We don’t celebrate American Thanksgiving today (btw Happy American Thanksgiving!)

2. We don’t have Black Friday deals, or get off work/school tomorrow

I agree wholeheartedly. Besides, if you really want to make a statement, buy nothing on Boxing Day. That way you can make a statement about family & friends being important to you, rather than just putting on a pretentious show about the evils of consumerism. (It’s worth remembering that Black Friday deals are the only way that some families can put gifts under the tree for their children.)

Standing for something is always better than merely standing against something else.
